    Increase Your Website Traffic
    Wednesday, October 25, 2006
If you have an online business then you know that driving traffic to your website or to your affiliate's website is of primary importance, after all, without traffic who would buy your products, click on your affiliate links or make you money? So one of the primary objectives is to drive traffic to your website but how do you do it?

One of the first methods you could use to drive targeted traffic to your website is article marketing. If you are knowledgeable about the subject you are advertising and are able to write then you could choose to write your own articles and submit them to article directories but if you are not able to write your own articles you could always get other people to do it for you. Article marketing is beneficial in that it sends people who are already interested in your product to your website as they have read your article and so know what you are selling.

Another targeted form of advertising is forum marketing. A primary key to forum marketing is to build a relationship with the people who visit the forum. Do not hard sell. Post messages that are relevant and helpful but ones that are also on topic to your website. When people have read a couple of your posts and seen your website address or affiliate link in your signature they will want to know more about you and so will be more likely to click through to your website. If you choose forums that are relevant to the type of product you are selling these people will be more inclined to buy the product you are selling.

Email groups such as Google groups and Yahoo groups are another way of driving traffic to your website. Join email groups that are relevant to the topic of your website and then follow the same rules as for forum marketing - build up a relationship with your group before marketing your website and don't hard sell. Also check the rules regarding posting to the groups. Some groups allow you to post a couple of times a day or only at certain times, etc. Follow their rules but try to post as often as possible as this will expose people to your message more often and they can also see your link in your signature more often and so will be more likely to click on it. Also consider the type of posts that other members are making - some groups do allow mostly hard sell posts while others are more informative and wanting people to share information rather than just selling their product.

Traffic exchanges are another useful way to drive traffic to your website and a very popular method but they do not provide as targeted traffic as most of the people who will be seeing your website are other webmasters wanting to advertise their website. Some traffic exchanges are getting more targeted however and providing a choice of what websites webmasters view so you get webmasters who at least have some interest in your topic.

Driving traffic to your website is one of your main priorities in running your online business. There are a number of methods you can use to drive traffic to your website including article marketing, forum marketing, email groups and traffic exchanges. The more targeted traffic these methods send to your website the better as this will help to increase your sales or earnings.

Getting A Good Rank On Google
    Monday, October 16, 2006
For most website owners, few things are more important than getting a good rank on Google. Why? It's simply the best way to get new visitors and customers to your site. If you're buried on page 40, you aren't as likely to get the traffic you want.So the first thing that you want to do to see that you get a good page ranking on Google is to be sure your site is set up correctly. This involves setting up your pages with the correct meta tag and such so that the web crawlers and spiders can find you!Another important aspect of getting a good rank on Google is to link your site to other high-profile sites. The spiders like sites that are well connected, but you don't want to link to just any sites out there. You want to choose sites that are related in some way to your business or service and are sites that are also highly ranked on Google. The number of pages your site has is also another important part of getting a good Google ranking. Opinions vary as to just what constitutes an appropriate number of pages to attract the spiders, but it's safe to say that the more pages you have, the more opportunities there are for you to be found. So start with twenty or so and add to them as you can.You will also want to submit your website to the Open Directory Project. Google tends to favor websites that are listed here. Make sure to have your most important keywords in both the description and title. It's generally considered best to submit your index page, then others if you can. Don't fall prey to the desire to over submit your website information, as you can be penalized for this. Finally, and perhaps most important, remember that content rules when it comes to both Google ranking and returning visitors. You want your website content to be informative and keyword enriched.Using keywords in your content often is another way to increase the chances that the web spiders find you. You want to be sure to at least have your keyword in the title and first sentence. After that, you want to see that the main keyword, along with similar variations are included in the text.Be careful, though, not to go too heavy on the keywords. Google can penalize you for this as well. Plus, keyword stuffed content often doesn't make good reading for your visitors and can turn them off completely. You want your content to be both reader and spider friendly. To make sure you have your web pages optimized, you will want to read as much as you can about the use of keywords. If you're not a writer or the keyword density rules give you a headache, you can hire a freelance writer to do the writing for you.Elance, Guru and Rent-a-coder are good sites to find writers who routinely do keyword article writing and for good rates. Leaving the writing to someone else gives you time to do what you want to do-concentrate on run.

Seven Ways To Promote Your New Website

Once you have built your new website, you don't have time to sit back and admire your creation, the work is just beginning. Thousands of web pages are being added to the Internet every day and if you want your page to be visited, then you have to make special efforts to promote your site. No two sites are equal and there may be a particular promotion method that works best for you, however, here are seven methods that you can consider before launching your promotion campaign:

    1. Get your site listed in the major search engines. At the present time most Internet traffic is delivered by three search engines: Google, Yahoo and MSN. If you want “free traffic, then your site must be listed in these search engines and it must appear prominently when someone makes a query using a keyword or phrase that is related to your business or your activity. Getting listed is not a big problem as the three major search engines use "spiders"(robotic programs) that scour the Internet constantly looking for new sites. The best way to be found by the spiders is to get a link to your site from a website that is already listed in the search engines. Ask your web designer, your hosting firm, your friends or business associates to link to your new site. After a few weeks check to see if your site is listed in the search engines. If you are not listed then you will have to manually submit your site using these urls:

    2. Distribute an Online Press Release. In the offline world of business, whenever your company does something new you should let the media know about it by issuing a press release. The same goes for the Internet. Write a one page press release, around 400 words, letting the world know about your new website. Put emphasis on the aspect of your business or website that you think is newsworthy. The press release can be distributed through online services such as . If you write a good release it will picked up by journalists, by blog publishers and webmasters looking for news.

    3. Participate in Forums and Blogs Related to Your IndustryThe Internet is becoming more interactive with each passing day. If you want to get known then you have to take part in this interactivity. Visit blogs and forums that are of interest to you. Learn something from them, and from time to time leave a comment. Don't try to push your website or business, but add something useful to the conversation, and of course put your website's address in your signature.

    4. Write and distribute articles about your area of expertiseWebmasters and newsletter publishers are hungry for good content. If you write a 500-800 word article about a topic that is related to your business, then you can easily get it published on hundreds of websites around the net. As with your forum participation, you should not try to directly sell your business or products. Rather, if you offer good information people will begin to respect you as an expert in your field and will click on the link to your site which is usually provided in the author-information at the end of your article.

    5. Submit your site to directories related to your website's themeIn addition to the major search engines, you should look around and find directories that list sites in your field of activity. For example if you are a web designer, then you would want your site listed in directories of webmaster resources. To find these directories make a search online for something like this: "pet supplies directory", "pet suppliers directory" and you will find strategic places where you can add your link. Just substitute your field for the term "pet supplies."

    6. Exchange links with complementary websitesOne of the oldest forms of promotion on the Internet is the trading of links between two websites. Make a search for websites that are related to yours and propose an exchange of links with each of these sites. The process works faster and more efficiently if you place a link for the other site before requesting a link to your site.

    7. Use paid advertisementsIt takes time for some of the promotion methods to pay off. If you want to start doing business immediately, then you will have to pay for online advertising. The most effective way to do this is to participate in Google’s Adwords program. The small advertisements that you see in the right hand column of the Google search results pages, and the advertisements that appear on many websites are placed by advertisers who pay each time someone clicks on the link. Go to to learn more about this program. If you use a combination of these seven methods to promote your website, then you will be more than satisfied with the results.

    Laptop Accessories Must Haves
After spending over a thousand dollars for a laptop, you'd think you've done enough damage on your credit card. Your laptop is your business partner, your secretary, and your investment all rolled into one. It'll be a wise idea to get a few laptop accessories to enhance its performance. I'm not telling you to go ahead and buy every gizmo and gadget that promise better laptop performance. In truth, there are only a few laptop accessories every business traveler must have.First stop: a protective laptop bag. Get this first before buying other laptop accessories. In fact, get this together with your laptop. This baby will protect your thousand-dollar business buddy from spills, scratches, and falls. Plus, carrying your laptop in a sleek case looks more professional than your college backpack. Laptop bags range from cheap $25 bags to a hundred dollar leather case. Whichever one you get, consider the quality and not just the price. Check for waterproofing, shock absorbing capacity, and pockets for added convenience. If your laptop came with its own software, don't think that you're all set. Check if the installed software matches your business needs. If not, install a new software and keep the installation disk in your laptop bag. It's good to bring it always because you never know when you'll need an emergency re-install. Without the software disk, you'll be a sitting duck. An actual USB mouse is often overshadowed by other laptop accessories. Your laptop has eraser nubs and trackpads which are convenient when working in vehicle. However, for stable surfaces like in a cafe or conference room, a mouse pad is more suitable. By using an actual USB mouse, you refrain from blocking the screen each time you adjust or operate your presentation. Even though you think you won't use it, keep it handy. Most laptops today come with Ethernet ports. But even if your hotel provides Ethernet connection, it is useless without a suitable cable. So include internet, phone, and modem cables in your laptop accessories list to avoid being caught off-guard. Your thousand-dollar laptop may look sleek the first time you use it. But over time, finger oils and dust can make it look grimy. Stash some disposable and lint-free cloth to wipe the surfaces of your laptop. Make sure the cloths are not abrasive to avoid scratching your laptop. For file storage, keep USB drives and blank CD-Rs handy. These are also handy for situations other than file storage. Suppose you delivered an excellent presentation and an executive of your client company requested a copy. Instead of emailing him a copy, you could burn him a copy instantly and give him the CD. Choice laptop accessories are not limited to protecting your laptop. Most protect your professional image and business as well.

    USB Flash Drives
A USB flash drive is a small portable storage device that plugs into the USB port on your computer. A USB drive can hold anywhere from a few Megabytes up to 64 Gigabytes or more.Because USB flash drives use the USB interface and the USB mass storage standard, they do not need a driver, and are compatible with virtually every modern computer. Nearly all modern computers have support for USB built into the operating system.USB drives range in price from a few dollars, up to several thousand, depending largely on their storage capacity. USB drives are considered very reliable, and are not subject to damage as easily as CDs or floppy disks.Flash drives have many uses. The most common use is transporting files between computers. Many people use flash drives to transport files and data from their school or work computers to their home computers. Flash drives are also very useful for backing up or repairing infected computers. Some specialized flash drives can also function as digital media or MP3 players. Usually these USB drives will have a sounds output as well as a simple user interface.Flash drives may also be used for applications and even operating systems. If your computer has the ability to boot up from your USB port, you can boot up from an operating system installed on your USB flash drive. USB drives can also be used for using applications that do not need to be installed on the host computer. For example, Mozilla Firefox has a version for flash drives. This allows you to use your favorite programs on any computer. As technology continues to advance, USB flash drives continue to become cheaper, hold more data, and have more features. Even currently, USB drives are pretty universally considered the best form of portable data storage.

    DDR Computer Memory
Buying DDR computer memory chips requires many considerations, including clock speed, clock frequency, transfer rate, storage space, electronic interface capabilities, on-die termination, prefetch buffers, off-chip drivers, latency, band width, and operating voltage, some of which rise or fall in effectiveness to the implementation of the other factors involved.DDR, DDR2, and DDR3, are each considerably different from one another, so it depends on the particular operating system to be used and personal choice. In the end, variation in price based on model and storage capacity makes buying DDR computer memory chips a task necessitating some technical knowledge and understanding.Below are a large number of models of the DDR memory chip and the comparative prices. This will provide a clearer idea for those interested in buying DDR computer memory chips:1. DDR PC2100, Memory Part #: 554cm-147 (128 MB/s): DDR 16X64-266MHz DDR266 PC2100 Compatible Memory. Sale: $29.952. DDR PC2100, Memory Part#: 512cm-165 (256 MB/s): DDR PC2100 266MHz ECC 184pin. Sale: $62.95.3. DDR-ECC PC2100, Memory Part #: 513cm-167 (512 MB/s): DDR ECC PC2100 184pin 266MHz 2.5V Compatible Memory. Sale: $69.95.4. DDR PC2100 EEC, Memory Part #: 539cm-539 (1GB): 1024MB/s DDR PC2100 266MHz ECC Non-Registered 184pin Memory Upgrade. Sale: $139.95.As can be seen, when obtaining DDR computer memory chips, each one is noticeably unique than the others and therefore has a contrastive price. Sales and discounts are usually available, especially online, and are also affected by the uniqueness of the item.Obtaining DDR computer memory chips is important in enhancing computer system performance in one way or another. Still, some models work well in select electronic systems and not in others, so its just as important to know the system as it does the respective strengths and weaknesses of the current DDR memory chips.

    Viruses & Spyware
Computer viruses and spyware are some of the types of malicious software (malware) that propagate and affect computer users. What is a computer virus?A computer virus is the term coined for a malicious software program, which enters into a user's system and copies itself into various files. The analogy is similar to that of a biological virus, which propagates by copying itself into living cells. Most viruses are intentionally destructive. They either destroy data, or the file system of the host they've infected. In the latter case, the destruction of the file system will often lead to a complete system crash. What are the types of viruses?1: Bombs: These are viruses that hide in the system until triggered. Viruses that activate on a particular date or time are called 'time bombs'. Viruses that trigger when the computer performs a specific action are called 'logic bombs'.2: Trojan Horses: This is an innocuous-looking computer program. It pretends to do one thing -for example' claim to be a cheat code for a game. However, when activated, it could affect the computer in various ways - it could attack data, send out personal information, allow hackers access to your computer, etc.3: Worms: A worm is a software program that exploits security flaws across computer networks to replicate itself. Once it is resident on a system, it will search for security flaws on other systems, and replicate itself onto that system.4: Email viruses: This spreads by automatically mailing copies of itself to people in your address book. How do viruses spread? Before the use of computer networks increased, viruses spread over removable media like floppy disks and ZIP disks. As the use of personal computers spread over homes, businesses and college campuses, bulletin boards began to spring into existence. Viruses were often loaded onto bulletin boards disguised as helpful software. Bulletin boards were responsible for the spread of Trojans.Viruses also spread through pirated copies of official software. Such a virus is written in the scripting language of that particular software and loaded on the bootleg CD.Today viruses spread mainly via the Internet, using email and Instant Messengers to infect networked computers. How to protect your computer from virusesThe only way to prevent your computer from being infected is to install an anti-virus software. There are two ways anti-virus software work. One is to use a heuristical algorithm that looks for common ways viruses work. The other, more common way is to create a list of virus signature definitions. As new viruses are being created and discovered every day, it is important to constantly update your anti-virus definitions. Also, most anti-virus software have an option whereby your system is scanned continuously while it is on. Every file you open is first scanned for a virus. You must keep this option running to stay protected. What is spyware?Spyware refers to malware that intercepts or takes partial control of a user's machine, without the informed consent of the user or the owner of the machine. Generally, spyware operates for the benefit of a third party. Most spyware watches for user data, what a user does with his machine, etc. It then sends out that information over the Internet. For example, spyware can collect data on the software loaded on the user's machine, and send it via the Internet to a software vendor. Some spyware use this data to download ads to your computer - these are called adware. In worse-case scenarios, spyware can access passwords and credit card information, and distribute this across the Internet. How does spyware spread? Most spyware spreads through users being deceived into installing it. They often trick users by attaching themselves to highly desirable software, like MSN Messenger, for example. Often, web popups mislead users into clicking them, thus leading to them unknowingly downloading a spyware program.Spyware can also spread through security flaws in a user's operating system or web browser. Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Internet Explorer have been recent victims of spyware through security flaws. How to protect your computer from spyware: Most anti-virus software also scan for spyware along with viruses. Install specific anti-spyware programs like Ad-Aware. Regularly download and run security patches for your operating system. Be careful. Don't click on suspicious-looking popup ads. Use only one credit card if making transactions online. Install a firewall to prevent spyware from illegally accessing your computer. Try scanning your PC with an anti-spyware product such as Spyspotter.

    Search Engine Optimization
There are many theories, facts and fiction bandied about the internet in articles, blogs and spam mail relating to Page Rank. It is every website owner's goal to reach the top of the mountain. The more visibility of a website, the greater the exposure which should lead to higher traffic.
There is a sleuth of professionals that peddle their books, services or tools promising to provide top ten exposure on popular search engines like Google, Yahoo, Msn and others.. Some promise virtually immediate success. Others offer long term contracts to continually tweak and customize their services for maximum benefit. Many of these offerings, but not all, can be considered a complete waste of time. If something sounds too good to be true, it is too good to be true!
Be warned, do not attempt to use deceptive or manipulative techniques to gain higher ranking. Techniques used to circumvent the general guidelines of good web design are definitely ill advised. Major search engines such as Google will actually ban certain sites from their index if they deem certain websites are attempting to cheat the system.
There are definitely a number of things that you can do to make a website search engine friendly. In general, webmasters can improve the rank of their sites by increasing the number of high-quality sites that link to their pages. It is definitely more prestigious and productive to have a number of sites with relevant information and high page rank link to your site.
Link exchange programs are usually ineffective and often a detriment to the overall goal of gaining more respect from the search engines. If your site sells shoes, it would not be advisable to exchange link with an online poker site. Conversely, it would be favorable to get links to your site posted by shoe manufacturers. If you use a link exchange program, you must be very selective with your link partners.
Make use of the robots.txt file on your web server. This file tells crawlers which directories can or cannot be crawled. It is very important to properly configure your robots.txt file. If you have sensitive content that should not be shared with search engines, you must tell the search engine robots not to search such folders. You should test whether your pages will be indexed using your robots.txt configuration.
Database driven websites are of infinite value because of their flexibility. However you should make sure that your content can be exported to flat files that can be easily indexed by search engines. You cannot assume that a search engine spider will select options like a human user to traverse a website.
One of the best practices is to make sure that your TITLE tags clearly reflect the content of your page. Do not make your title tags attractive to search engines but lack any cohesion with your content. Fancy features such as JavaScript, cookies, session IDs, frames, DHTML, or Flash may prevent search engine spiders from crawling your entire site. Be careful not to create bottlenecks by leave broken links in your content.
Some search engines have clear rules against the use of hidden text, clever redirects, cloaking, irrelevant keywords or duplicate content. Do not attempt to add something to your site that is intended solely to increase your ranking. It may lead to some short term results but could get you banished.
A thoughtfully designed website with a proper hierarchy, a good site map and links to sub-sections from the main page will be favorably indexed. The best way to maintain and increase website credibility is ethical design and management. You could save yourself hundreds or thousands of dollars by sticking to the rules of the game. There are no major shortcuts that have not been plugged by search engine algorithm updates

    How Affiliated Programs Works
Joining an affiliate program is a great way to allow other people to do your selling for you. You can make up to $200 an hour and work only a few hours a day by joining or creating your own affiliate program. Does that sound tempting? Many affiliate programs can get on you the right path to a sustainable income through a small or home based business.

So, what are affiliate programs exactly? An affiliate program is sharing revenue between you and a business that sells services or products. The business rewards you with money for sending customers their way. Does it sound good so far? Now you know what an affiliate program is, now let us see how it works.

First, you place links on your website to a particular businesses website. When a visitor clicks on that link and purchases a product or service from that business, you earn a referral fee. Some affiliate programs will only pay you for a limited amount for time while others will track the sales from your referrals for the entire life of the customer. The average referral fee comes from a percentage of the total amount sold. Some businesses will pay a set amount, click through, or other actions initiated from your website. That percentage can vary from business to business. More visitors and the higher the sales is more money in your pocket.

Does that sound easy? Remember there is no easy money. You cannot just put up a website, start posting a dozen affiliate links, and expect the money to come swarming in. There are a few things to consider first. You need to decide what kind of website you should have that would allow you to start making money through affiliate programs. What works best for you and your website? Now you will have to decide how you will market your website most effectively. Never create a website that consists solely of affiliate links. This creates a very unprofessional site and does not bring in the traffic that you desire.

Another aspect to developing a small business is careful panning. You should be able to map out a profitable strategy by using affiliate programs. Your planned strategy should allow your business to grow and enable you to build a sustainable income on a regular basis. You need to be able to generate a reasonable income website by using affiliate programs that will bring you more than petty cash and that will be worth all your time and effort.

Do not wait for the website traffic to flow in all by itself. It is up to you to market your website and lure the visitors to you. Only hard work and persistence will grant you the keys to success. You will need to research all of your options carefully before entering into any contracts or making any commitments. Even if you do not have your own service or product to sell, you can still make money by selling someone else's service or products. You can do this by becoming an affiliate of another e-commerce website.

Finding an affiliate program can be as easy as going to a Link Share or Commission Junction. These are companies that have systems set up for you to find, apply and manage a variety of affiliate programs through their websites. These companies will also collect all your commissions and compile all your earnings into one paycheck, so that you receive only one check instead of a series of small checks. You can find an affiliate program in nearly every area that interests you. Be sure to take you time when browsing through the categories and select the ones that would work best for you.

If you are interested in putting an affiliate link on your website, most programs will give you instructions on how to establish a link to their website. Normally, the web page allows you to produce a HTML code to post on your website. This HTML code will display an image or text on your web page that is directly linked to the businesses website and contains information that will let the business know which click through came from your website.
